A new update about the rezoning of PS 8 & PS 307

  • The Panel for Educational Policy voted yes during its November 19 meeting on the proposal to relocate M.S. 313 from 209 York St. to the “Dock Street” location which which will free up the 3rd floor of the PS 307 building at York Street for the elementary school. More info here
  • The final re-zoning proposal for PS 8 & PS 307 was submitted during a CEC 13 meeting on 11/23. The new zoning line – as previously presented – would follow the Brooklyn Bridge and everything east – DUMBO and Vinegar Hill – would be zoned for PS 307
  • New to the rezoning proposal is that the DOE plans to set aside 50% of the seats per class to students who qualify for free or reduced lunch to prevent the school from becoming largely white. Families living in the zone would have priority over out-of-zone students who qualify for free lunch. All details in the New York Times.
  • The CEC 13 will have to vote on the proposal by January 5th, 2016. If they vote yes, the rezoning will go into effect for next school year for children born in 2011 who do not have older siblings at PS 8.
  • Kindergarten applications will be open from 12/7/15 to 1/15/16. Details here.
  • Open houses at PS 307 for prospective Pre-K and Kindergarten families: Monday December 7 from 6pm-7pm, Thursday December 17 from 9:30 am-10:30 am, and Thursday January 7 from 9:30-10 am.
