Approx. 38 Pre-K spots open at PS 307 in Vinegar Hill for this fall

As previously reported, PS 307 on York Street is expanding its Pre-K program this fall to 6 classes, each with a size of 18 students and 2 teachers. Principal Davenport (pictured) shared with us that they have filled around 70 seats so far. For the month of July, out-of-zone families can apply directly at the school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 2 pm. Parents should bring a birth certificate, proof of address and immunization records to register their child born in 2010. The school is able to expand its Pre-K program due to a recently awarded federal Magnet grant that will bring in $1.8 million of additional funding. Beginning in the 2014-2015 school year, it will become a science and technology-focused Magnet School for STEM Studies.

Some highlights about the new Pre-K program:

– Mandarin classes

– New after-school program until 6 pm

– Daily outdoor activities at the Pre-K exclusive playyard (see photos)

– New smart tables for each classroom

– STEM expert on staff 3 days a week for Pre-K and up

Save the Date: On August 22nd from 10 am to 11.30 am, there will be an orientation meeting at the school for registered families during which the administration will provide more details about the Pre-K program, introduce the teachers and share information about the new after-school program.
