Details about the program? A Pre-K Center is a DOE operated program that serves only pre-K students and is staffed by NYCDOE personnel. Staff is currently being hired for the Pre-K Center at 19 Dock Street. Each classroom is led by 2 teachers, including one lead teacher who has a New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education. Each classroom will serve 18 students born in 2012. Students will participate in reading, healthy play, group meals, class meetings, activity centers, and small group time. Each classroom will utilize the New York State Pre-Kindergarten Foundation for Common Core to ensure that all students, including students with disabilities and students whose first language is not English have rich and varied early learning experiences that prepare them for success in school and lay the foundation for college and career readiness.

Will students participate in cluster classes? Students explore art, music, science and other subjects through a variety of age appropriate activities during Center Time and other parts of the pre-K curriculum.

Will languages be offered? Language services offered will be determined once the staff is fully hired.

Where will students have lunch? Pre-K students eat lunch in their classrooms family style. In pre-K, meal times are used as both as a way of reinforcing good personal care routines and as a learning opportunity.
