Common Core test results of schools in our neighborhood

The common core test results of public elementary schools in Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO have been published. 2013/2014 was the second year that New York State administered exams under Common Core standards. Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 were tested in math and English Language Arts (ELA). 34.5% of students tested in New York City passed the math tests, 31.4% passed the ELA tests. PS 8 scored 65% in math and 60% in ELA. At PS 29 in Cobble Hill 77% of students passed ELA and 80% passed math tests. PS 307 in Vinegar Hill scored 16% in ELA and 22% in math. There is a lot of controversy around these new standards and it is complex data affected by school demographics, school funding, class composition, and test preparation. However, when this data was made available, we wanted to share with the community.
