Free kid-friendly events in April

Lots of free events for children will be taking place this month in Downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights including free roller skating, tennis, a Stop ‘N’ Swap and Earth Day activities.

Grand opening skate party @ Pier 2 | April 13

The grand opening skate party will take place at the Brooklyn Bridge Park roller skating rink at Pier 2 on Friday April 13th from 3.30 to 6.30 pm.

Lion Tennis Play Day @ Squibb Park | April 14

Learn the ABC’s (agility, balance, and coordination) and proper hitting technique in a supportive environment during a free tennis play day at Squibb Park in Brooklyn Heights. Racquets and balls provided. Children should wear sneakers and comfortable clothing and bring water. The event will take place on April 14 from 9 am to 12 pm. Downtown Brooklyn Stop ‘N’ Swap @ Borough Hall | April 19

Free community reuse event on April 19 from 11 am to 2 pm at the Brooklyn Borough Hall! Drop-offs will accepted at the Greenmarket 8am to 11am. Bring clean, portable, reusable items you no longer need and take home something new-to-you. No one is required to bring something to take something. Books, toys, fashionable clothing, housewares, electronics & more! No furniture, large items, expired or open food, unsealed personal care products, medicine, dirty or ripped clothing, fabric scraps, incomplete toys and games, non-working electronics, tube TVs, magazines, or sharp objects.

NYFest 2018 @ Pier 5 | April 21

Watch a media industry charity soccer tournament at Pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park and enjoy food trucks, live music, games for kids and more! This free event will take place on Saturday, April 21 from 9 am to 5 pm.

Healthy Kids Day @ Dodge Y | April 21

Healthy Kids Day is free event and open to the public. Encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle for the entire family, there will be vendors, activities and goody bags. Enjoy an afternoon at the YMCA on Atlantic Avenue for free with the whole family! 4/21 from 10 am to 3 pm.

Earth Day Block Party @ Albee Square | April 21

The 2018 Downtown Brooklyn Presents event series launches with a celebration of Earth Day and Car Free NYC at Albee Square on Saturday, April 21st. Starting at 1PM, the environmentally-friendly troupe from Bash the Trash will perform music, help the kids construct instruments from recycled products, and then lead a parade! Stay for an all-ages dance class led by the Dodge Y with beats by DJ Mike.

Celebrate Earth Day @ City Point | April 21 & 20

A huge 100% recyclable maze featuring art by Mike Perry will be hosted at City Point at 445 Albee Square West on Saturday, April 21, 2-7 pm and Sunday, April 22, 12-5 pm with music, an adventurous scavenger hunt in the maze and an exhibit by Brooklyn SolarWorks demonstrating an array of uses for solar energy, from powering toys to recharging cell phones.

Gowanus Grind @ Thomas Greene Park| April 28

Food, skate and music at the 10th annual Gowanus Grind at Thomas Greene Park in Gowanus on April, 28th from 11 am to 2.30 pm with skate clinics, face painting, fencing demos, seed planting and more.
