New public schools coming to Downtown Brooklyn and beyond

Mayor De Blasio recently announced at a town hall meeting that a six-story elementary school for 332-students will be built inside the new office building One Willoughby Square at 420 Albee Square West between Fulton and Willoughby streets in Downtown Brooklyn. The elementary school for District 13 is scheduled to open in 2021.

District 13 will also get a new middle school which will be called M.S. One Brooklyn. The 616-seat school will be built at the Atlantic Yards at 664 Pacific Street, no scheduled opening has been posted yet.

Additionally, Brooklyn Prospect Charter School plans to open its new middle school campus for District 13 at 1100 Fulton Street in Clinton Hill in 2018.

Another elementary school is planned for Downtown Brooklyn, this one in District 15 within the 80 Flatbush project. The developer plans to build a 350-seat public elementary school in the mixed use project at 80 Flatbush Avenue and open the school in 2022.

Construction has started at District 15 elementary school P.S. 32 in Gowanus to add 436 seats to the overcrowded school which is scheduled to be finished in 2020.

The city also plans to build a stand-alone Pre-K Center for 180 Pre-K students between Third and Fourth Avenues on Ninth Street in Gowanus. The center will draw from District 15. No timeline has been published.

Additionally, Brooklyn Prospect Charter School plans to open its new middle school campus for District 15 at 160 17th Street in Gowanus in 2019.
