Open houses at local elementary schools (public & Charter schools)

Open houses are coming up for families with children born in 2012 and 2013 who are looking into Pre-K and Kindergarten for their children at local public elementary schools as well as Charter schools (admission-free schools). To find out which school you are zoned for, click here.

Brooklyn New School @ Carroll Gardens: The Brooklyn New School is an un-zoned public school (lottery) that draws from Districts 13, 14, 15 and 16. They give priority to siblings and children who qualify for free lunch. Brooklyn New School is located at 610 Henry Street. Pre-K and up. Open houses will take place on December 1, December 7,  January 12, January 26, February 15, March 16 from 9 am to 10.30 am as well as February 28 from 6 to 7.30 pm.

Brooklyn Prospect Charter School @ Downtown Brooklyn: Brooklyn Prospect Charter School offering International Baccalaureate is located at 80 Willoughby Street is a Charter school that draws from District 13 (lottery). They give priority to siblings and children who qualify for free lunch.  Kindergarten and up. The information session will take place on Thursday, December 15, from 6 to 7pm in the Gym (school tours will only be offered to families winning a seat in the lottery).

Community Roots Charter School @ Fort Greene: Community Roots Charter School located at 51 Saint Edwards Street is a Charter school that draws from District 13 (lottery). Kindergarten and up. Tours will begin in January 2017. Check back on their website.

International Charter School @ Downtown Brooklyn: The Charter School located at 55 Willoughby Street draws from District 13 (lottery). Kindergarten and up. They will have info sessions at the school from 5:00-6:00 pm as follows: 12/14, 12/20, 1/11, 1/25, 2/8, 2/22, 3/8, 3/22.

PS 8 @ Brooklyn Heights: PS 8 exclusively draws from its school zone Brooklyn Heights and Concorde Village as well as siblings of current students. Kindergarten and up. School tours will take place December 7, January 11, March 1 each from 9 to 10:30 am.

PS 9 @ Prospect Heights: PS 9 has been accepting out-of-zone students in the recent past into their Spanish dual language program and general classes. The school also runs a Gifted & Talented program. Open houses for prospective parents will take place December 16, January 20, February 10, March 17 and April 21 at 9 am.

PS 29 @ Carroll Gardens:  PS 29 exclusively draws from its school zone. The school is located at 425 Henry Street. Pre-K and up. The open house for zoned families of incoming Kindergarten students will be held on Monday, December 10th at 9 AM.  They do not hold a Pre-K tour as they have a very limited number of Pre-K seats that are usually taken up by siblings. PS 133 @ Gowanus: PS 133 offering French and Spanish dual language programs is an un-zoned public school (lottery) that gives priority to students from Districts 13 and 15 (1/3 to District 13 and 2/3 to District 15). After prioritizing siblings, 30% of the seats are given to English Language Learners and families who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Pre-K and up. School tours will take place November 29th, December 13th, January 13th (DLP Information Session, no tour), January 24th, February 14th and March 14th – all start at 9 am.

PS 261 @ Downtown Brooklyn: PS 261 at 314 Pacific Street is accepting out-of-zone students for Kindergarten and up (not Pre-K). The open house for prospective parents will take place on December 7, 2016 at 9:15 am.

PS 307 @ Vinegar Hill: PS 307 at 209 York Street is a Magnet school for STEM studies that draws students from all districts in Brooklyn. Pre-K and up. School tours will take place on Tuesday December 6 from 9:30 to 10:30 am and Monday December 12 from 6 to 7 pm.

Success Academy @ Fort Greene & Cobble Hill: Success Academy in Fort Greene is a Charter School that draws students from District 13. Open house will take place on December 8th from 9.30 to 10.30 am. Success Academy in Cobble Hill is a Charter School that draws students from District 15. Open house information here.

Academy of Arts & Letters @ Fort Greene: Arts & Letters is an un-zoned public school (lottery). The school located at 225 Adelphi Street gives priority to District 13 students in the lottery. The school gives priority for 40 percent of seats to students who qualify for free lunch after prioritizing siblings. Sign up for a fall tour on their website.

Compass Charter School @ Fort Greene: The Charter School is located at 300 Adelphi Street. Siblings, families qualifying for free and reduced lunch (40% of seats) and children in District 13 have priority. You can RSVP for a tour here.
