Rezoning update for PS 8 & PS 307 zones

In July 2015 the New York City Department of Education notified the Community Education Council for District 13 that it intended to develop a rezoning plan for the elementary zones in the northwest part of the district (i.e., the present PS 8 and PS 307) zones. The DOE has stated publicly that it has concluded that the zone size of PS 8 needs to be reduced. The DOE intends to share with the CEC and the public at least one preliminary scenario for rezoning PS 8, which they have said will include a preliminary map and additional scenario details at CEC’s 9/1 Business Meeting. The working session open to the public will be at 6:30pm on 9/1 at the District office at 355 Park Place, Brooklyn.

Also, mark your calendars for the CEC 13’s September calendar meeting, during which the DOE rezoning proposal will be discussed. It will take place on September 30 at 6 pm at PS 307. It is expected that the DOE will ask the CEC to vote on the DOE proposal in the fall, likely at the October or November CEC calendar meeting.

Community input is crucial and the CEC wants to hear from all families, parents, and community members. You can comment here and please fill out the survey for all families in DUMBO and Vinegar Hill here!
