Science lab at MS 8 is open

The ribbon cutting event for the new science laboratory at MS 8 took place on April 26 with the school’s principal, local politicians and staff from the DOE. The science lab features an autoclave, fume hood, incubator, freezer, and refrigerator.  With that and the space, students will be able to conduct more extensive genetics and microbiological investigations.  The lab will also promote more student independence since students have easier access to equipment and materials and more space to do their work.

All 8th grade classes do meet in the lab on a daily basis within the Living Environment Regents course. They have 1 to 2 periods per day in the room depending on the lab time. The school’s administration is working on scheduling the 7th grade classes to use the lab and exploring the possibility of a lab buddy arrangement for 6th grade with 8th grade classes.
