Brooklyn Bridge Park hosts free seining sessions at the Main Street beach in DUMBO during summer. You can learn about the creatures of the East River as their scientists use a 20-foot seine net to humanely catch and release these unique critters.
The audience does not participate in the actual seining but stays at the beach. We got to meet pregnant Asian Shore Crabs, a Atlantic Menhaden, Blue Crabs, Oyster Drills, snails and more during our session.
These free sessions take place bi-monthly on Saturdays, RSVP here. Children of all ages can participate, put their rain boots on!
