Adopt your elephant for DUMBO’s block party supporting local public schools

The DUMBO Improvement District hosts its second annual block party on Washington Street on Friday, September 28 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cornerstone event of the evening is The Great #DUMBODrop, which sends thousands of toy elephants descending on the streets of DUMBO at 6:00 p.m.

Elephants for the DUMBO Drop can be “adopted” for $20, and will be released from the rooftops of DUMBO onto Washington Street. The owner of the elephant that most closely reaches the target will win a $500 neighborhood shopping spree; one runner-up will receive six free pizza pies and six “cut the line” passes for Juliana’s Pizza. Additional prizes to be announced. Elephants can be purchased by visiting https://dumbo.is/dropping-elephants. Winners will be announced from the mainstage after the Drop.

Funds raised from the DUMBO Drop will support DUMBO’s local Title I Public STEAM Schools PS307 Elementary School and the Dock Street Middle School. Proceeds from last year’s event helped PS307 and The Dock Street School purchase classroom supplies, dance costumes and wrestling equipment, and computer software, and sent students on field trips to Yale, Harvard and to Randall’s Island.

The Washington Street block party between York and Plymouth Streets from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. will feature food from neighboring eateries, in addition to musical entertainment; arts and crafts activities, virtual reality experiences from vrbar; games led by Come Out and Play, an art installation in conjunction with Photoville; plus other activities.

The event kicks-off with a performance by female drumline FogoAzul at 5:00 p.m. PS307’s nationally recognized cheerleading team The Diamonds, and The Dock Street Dancers will perform prior to The Great DUMBO Drop.
