Bilingual Charter School opening in District 15 this fall

LEEP Academy is a new public charter elementary school opening in Sunset Park in September 2019. Students will be immersed in Spanish for up to 90% of the school day in Kindergarten, balancing out to 50% Spanish and 50% English by Grade 4. Unlike existing dual language programs in public schools which run the common 50-50 model starting in Kindergarten, their model is a 90-10 dual language Spanish immersion program.

The Kindergarten to 5th Grade school will be located at 5323 5th Avenue occupying three floors above Chase Bank featuring 24,000 sq ft of classrooms, arts and dance room (no outdoor space). The facility is reachable via R/N trains and B63 bus. School bus service will be available to qualifying families via NYC DOE, Office of Pupil Transportation.

School hours will be 7:50 am to 4 pm daily, with early dismissal at 2:15pm on Wednesdays.

The school is currently enrolling 153 students for Grades K and 1 through a random lottery. Class size will be approx. 24 students. Preference will be given to those who live in District 15. The team aims to achieve a linguistic balance of 60 (Spanish speakers) – 40 (English english). Apply for children born in 2014 and 2013 here.
