Brooklyn Historical Society DUMBO opening 5/19

Brooklyn Historical Society will open their doors to its new satellite museum at DUMBO’s Empire Stores on Friday, May 19, followed by a weekend of free admission Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21. The new space boasts a gift shop and our inaugural exhibition, Shifting Perspectives: Photographs of Brooklyn’s Waterfront, featuring 65 modern and contemporary photographs created by 25 acclaimed photographers, many of them Brooklyn-based.

This exhibition features the work of two dozen photographers whose images crisscross the Brooklyn shoreline, from Newtown Creek to Jamaica Bay. By picturing decades of Brooklyn’s coastal scenery, including its changing industrial and postindustrial environment, the exhibition presents dramatic panoramic vistas, spectacular aerial views, glimpses of popular recreational attractions, from Brooklyn Bridge Park to Coney Island, and other scenes, including those impacted by natural or manmade forces. Learn more about the exhibition and see the full list of photographers here.

For Families: Ask about their self-guided exhibition kits for the littlest museum-goers!

Museum hours: Monday to Friday 12 to 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 7 pm. Summer Friday hours: open until 9 pm every Friday from June 30 to September 1.
