DUMBO real estate news

The Brooklyn Eagle is reporting on Brooklyn’s coastal neighborhoods that will face biweekly flooding in decades to come because of accelerating sea level rise. In Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO, ZIP code 11201, 280 low-lying homes are at risk. A combined 341 homes are at risk in ZIP codes 11231 and 11215, which includes Red Hook and Gowanus.

The Bridge has published an in-depth article about the 85 Jay Street development under way and how it will change the face of DUMBO: The little-known history of 85 Jay: from Al Capone’s school to Jehovah’s Witnesses, a proposed arena, a Kushner role, and finally a 737-apartment giant.

Jehovah’s Witnesses’ DUMBO hotel will become low-income housing according to the Brooklyn Eagle. A housing provider called Breaking Ground will turn 90 Sands Street into an affordable and supportive residence for low-income working families and low-income and formerly homeless individuals. There are 507 apartments in 90 Sands Street, 127 of which are small one-bedroom units and 380 of which are studios. The building is zoned for PS 307 in Vinegar Hill.
