Free kid-friendly events in April

Lots of free events and activities for children will be taking place in April in Downtown Brooklyn, DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights including fun Earth Day celebrations and the re-opening of the roller skating rink in Brooklyn Bridge Park for the season.

Grand opening skate party | Pier 2 | 4/12

The grand opening skate party will take place at the Brooklyn Bridge Park roller skating rink at Pier 2 on Friday April 12th from 3.30 to 6.30 pm. Free skating for all. Find out more here.

Free opening celebration | Bright Horizons in DUMBO | 4/13

Enjoy a morning of family fun! Join the team at Bright Horizons daycare in DUMBO for live music, face painting and gardening activities on Saturday 4/13 from 10 am to 12 pm. RSVP here.

Free book reading | Center for Fiction Downtown Brooklyn | 4/13

Saturday, April 13 at 2pm Mahogany Browne will read from her book-length poem Black Girl Magic (Grade 6 and up) and answer questions. More info here.

Free family program | Brooklyn Historical Society DUMBO | 4/13 & 4/27

Brooklyn Historical Society is offering a midmorning family programming geared towards children ages 2 and up and their adults twice a month at Brooklyn Historical Society DUMBO. Programs will alternate between storytelling and age appropriate hands-on activities designed for individual or multiple participants. Spanish music show | Randolph Beer in Dumbo Heights | 4/14

A free music show for all little monsters up to 3 years old and their families. Rock n LoLo teaches Spanish through music. Randolph Beer will be opening their doors early, at 10am, on the second Sunday of every month (April 14th).

Earth Day Celebration | Brooklyn Bridge Park | 4/20

Celebrate mother nature and the outdoors with a full day of volunteer opportunities, yoga, and hands-on activity stations by local environmental organizations in Brooklyn Bridge Park. All ages are welcome! Saturday, April 20th from 12 to 3 pm at the Main Street Terrace in DUMBO. Find out more here.

Car-free Earth Day | Albee Square | 4/27

Car Free Earth Day in Downtown Brooklyn’s Albee Square on Saturday 4/27 from 11am-3pm. Albee Square West will be closed to traffic for the day to celebrate Earth Day! Learn to ride a bike, make new clothes out of your old ones, enjoy live music, plus more.

Barnes & Noble Story Time | Saturdays

Saturdays at 11 am story time and activities for children 2 years and up at Barnes & Noble at 106 Court Street. Free! Detailed schedule here!

Environmental Education Center | Brooklyn Bridge Park | Ongoing

The center offers multiple interactive elements and a reading corner. It contains two signature exhibits: a marine aquarium and a Discovery Station. The 500-gallon display aquarium showcases fish collected from the East River during the Conservancy’s popular seining programs. The aquarium also contain a child-friendly touch tank where visitors can gently interact with starfish, crabs and mussels.The center inside the 99 Plymouth building in DUMBO is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays 1 to 5 pm as well as Tuesdays and Thursdays 3 to 5 pm.

Brooklyn Heights Library | Ongoing

Free activities and events including babies & books, Lego club, Friday movie nights and more at the local public library at 109 Remsen Street taking place almost daily for babies up to teens. All details here!
