Free summer programs for kids in Brooklyn

Various free summer camps for children of all ages will be taking place in Brooklyn organized by the Department of Education, local BIDs and other providers. Many but not all of those programs are offered to students who qualify for free lunch or attend Title 1 schools.

STEM Summer in the city 2018

Program: In addition to weekly STEM challenges, involving coding & game design, developing engineering solutions and inventing with robotics, the program also includes enrichment opportunities in the Arts, Physical Education and includes trips to NYC cultural institutions.

Costs: Free

Grades: Current 2nd – 10th graders

Dates: July 5, 2018 to August 09, 2018

Hours: Monday through Thursdays from 8:30AM – 2: 30PM

STEM Matters NYC 2018

Program: Join in on the excitement at the Prospect Park Zoo this summer! In Zoo Explorers, campers will go on zoo-safari to spot dingoes in the outback, travel to Africa to observe baboons, search for poisonous frogs in the rainforest, and engage in endless discovery about animal abilities along the way. This camp is packed full of first-hand experiences with our animals, exhilarating games, team challenges, creative activities, and unique experiences that only happen at the Zoo.

Costs: Free

Grades: Open to students entering grades 4, 5, and 6

Dates: Monday, July 30 through Friday, August 3, 2018

Hours: 9 am – 3 pm

Location: Prospect Park Zoo

Educational & Tutoring Summer Programs Atlantic Avenue LDC

Program: Youth community scholarship program for summer programs including math tutoring at Mathnasium Brooklyn Heights, teen aquatic lessons at the Dodge YMCA, Brooklyn Music Factory summer camp, Mark Morris summer dance lessons and many more are available within this free program curated by the Atlantic Avenue LDC.

Costs: Free

Grades: Children aged 4 to 18 and living in District 13 and 15

Dates: Throughout the summer

Hours: Depending on program

Location: Various locations in Brooklyn near Atlantic Avenue

Growing UP NYC summer programs

Program: NYC parks summer programs, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum summer program, summer youth police academy with the NYPD and many more programs are listed on this new website where parents can easily search by age, program and borough.
