Halloween Guide 2020

Our annual Halloween guide for families in Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene, Park Slope and BoCoCa looks very different this year due to the pandemic. We have still compiled free and fee-based activities and events for children with social distancing in place in Brooklyn. We wish our kids a safe and still spooky Halloween. This guide will be updated leading up to Halloween, please check back in!

Boo at the Zoo | All October | Prospect Park Zoo

Prospect Park Zoo is going batty every day in October with Halloween-themed educational (and fun) decorations. Download a spooky scavenger hunt and see if you can answer the clues as you wander through the zoo. Visit the tombstones of extinct animals in sea lion court and learn why extinction isn’t inevitable with your help! Our Spooky Trail will show you some of our “spooky” neighbors who come out at night. Get creative with your masks and take a photo at one of our beautiful harvest decoration areas. Find out more here.

Pumpkin Point | 10/24 – 11/1 | Governors Island

The annual pumpkin patch on Governors Island will be back this year in a socially distanced format with thousands of pumpkins and seasonal decorations arranged around Nolan Park. Visitors are encouraged to take home one pumpkin, free of charge. Pumpkin Point will be open daily until 11/1. No trick-or-treating will be hosted on Governors Island this year. Find out more here.

Halloween Pumpkin Hunt | 10/31 | All neighborhoods

Inspired by the Rainbow Map in the beginning of the pandemic, there will be a Halloween Pumpkin Hunt in all neighborhoods. Step 1: Kids draw their pumpkin photos and put them in their windows. Step 2: On Halloween 10/31, kids walk around in costumes to find the pumpkin pictures. Parents can set a goal for their kids e.g. find 10 pumpkins and get a bag of candy. Feel free to do your own family pumpkin hunt at any time during Saturday. Even though the Hunt is for the kids, anyone can make a pumpkin and tape it in their window. In fact, the more pumpkins on the map, the safer the activity because there will be more route options. So please consider participating. Review the Halloween Pumpkin Map here.

Halloween Parade | 10/31 | Brooklyn Heights Promenade

The Brooklyn Heights Association will be hosting a socially-distant, face-coverings required Halloween Parade for families on the Promenade on Saturday Oct 31st at 10am, offering kids a chance to show off their costumes and receive a treat. RSVP required, one ticket per family.
