Kids activities during Brooklyn Folk Festival April 28 – 30

The annual Brooklyn Folk Festival will be held April 28th to 30th at St. Ann’s and the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn Heights. It will feature Sunday afternoon kids performances on the Parish Hall Stage and activities for children all weekend. Children age five and under get in free.

Saturday April 29th

Noon – Main Stage – Jalopy Jr. Recital – See youngsters from the Jalopy Jr. folk music school perform on their instruments, including banjo and ukelele, With group lessons and a summer camp in Brooklyn, Jalopy offers music education on a variety of instruments and topics to children age 6-14.

2pm – Workshop Room – Build your own DIY instruments with Zeke Leonard – make your own fun home made instruments! Leonard, based in Providence, RI, uses found objects and “garbage” to make new instruments.

6pm – Workshop Room – Puppet show! Sam Wilson is a painter, puppeteer, puppet maker and a member of the Industrial Workers of the World.

Sunday April 30th

1:45pm Family Sing-a-long with Emily Eagan and friends. Eagen has recorded with Sufjan Stevens and is a teaching artist at the Weill Music Institute of Carnegie Hall.

2:30pm Deedle Deedle Dees – Fun kids music, with themes from history! The Deedle Deedle Dees are a critically-acclaimed cult band for families based in New York City.
