Meet creative Brooklyn mom and start-up founder Noha Waibsnaider

Meet Noha Waibsnaider, Park Slope mom and the founder of GatheringUs, the new platform that gathers communities to support each other after the death of a loved one.

Your job title: Founder & CEO of GatheringUs

Your work in one sentence: Through my platform GatheringUs.com I bring communities together after the death of a loved one to support each other and celebrate their life together.

Your children: I have a son, age 11, and a daughter, age 8. The girl got all my curls.

Where do your kids go to school: My daughter attends the bilingual Spanish program at PS 133. I grew up speaking Spanish and Hebrew, so I prioritized a bilingual education for my children. My son graduated from that same program at 133 last year, and now attends the Brooklyn Collaborative School in Carroll Gardens.

Which neighborhood do you live in: My family has lived in Park Slope for 12 years now. It’s such a cute neighborhood, and I love to walk through Prospect Park — it’s a 4 season marvel.

What do you love about living in Brooklyn: In Brooklyn I can get pretty much anything I want, and within walking distance. When I want culture or diversity, I need only walk out my front door and wander. We used to take out-of-town guests to Manhattan, but now we go to Dumbo or Industry City. We have everything in Brooklyn now.

More information about your company: As part of a large family, I planned a number of memorials and funerals. I felt the challenges of organizing family and friends during these difficult times, and yearned for a simpler way to communicate with everyone and commemorate loved ones. GatheringUs enables family and friends to share stories, memories and photos, RSVP to events, and fundraise to help the family with expenses or donate to a nonprofit charity. In just 10 months, we’ve hosted 1,300 memorials and facilitated over $250,000 in donations to nonprofits and personal fundraisers.
