New District 13 public middle school coming to Pacific Park further delayed

The School Construction Authority (SCA) has meet with community members to provide an update about the planned District 13 middle school coming to 664 Pacific in Prospect Heights on the border to Downtown Brooklyn. The school will be housed in the base of a mixed-use building with rental units being built by a private developer.

Here are the news:

  • The estimated opening date is now 2023 and not 2022 anymore which means current 2nd Graders would be the first to enter the new school. As the school is located inside an apartment tower built by a developer, the SCA has not as much control over the timing as it would have for a stand-alone school.
  • The capacity is now 800 students, up from around 615 originally.
  • The school’s design will soon be available and will include an art room, music room, science labs, library, gyms and cafeteria. It will also feature an outdoor play space and school yard.
  • No information on the curriculum, programming and admissions policies are available yet.
