Check out our overview of restaurants, bars, bakeries and cafés that opened this month, including the rebirth of a vintage diner in Williamsburg, a new Fujianese restaurant in Prospect Heights, a Basque restaurant in Cobble Hill, a new kosher restaurant in DUMBO, and a new Italian restaurant from a Top Chef competitor in Crown Heights.
Plus, there are many openings to look forward to this season, including a new food hall in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, an omakase restaurant next to the Adams Street Library in DUMBO, and a new pizzeria in Brooklyn Heights.
We will start with the news of a beloved Brooklyn Heights market going out of business:
After nearly 50 years on Remsen Street, the grocery store Perelandra Natural Foods is closing on September 29. The news was received with shock and outrage from Brooklyn Heights locals. Perelandra is reportedly closing due to a rent hike and will not be moving to a new location.

Malka | DUMBO
Playa Bowls | DUMBO
This smoothie and juice bar celebrated their grand openinat 84 Front Street in DUMBO. They serve açaí, pitaya, and coconut bowls and smoothies, plus juices and more.
Jules | Brooklyn Heights
This new pizzeria at 50 Henry Street serves salads, pizzas with seasonal toppings, dessert, plus cocktails, wine and beer. Open 5-10pm on weekdays and until 11pm on weekends. Walk-ins only!
Caffe Buon Gusto | Brooklyn Heights
The Italian restaurant formerly located on Montague Street, has now reopened where Amy’s Bread was located on Henry Street, near Atlantic Avenue.
Choco Mania | Boerum Hill
Choc Mania is now open at 529 Atlantic Avenue, and specializes in all things chocolate, from waffles to milkshakes to ice cream, coffee, and crepes.
Yafa Café | Downtown Brooklyn
Yafa Café is a Yemeni coffee house and community space based in Sunset Park. Their newest location opened this month at 505 State Street in Downtown Brooklyn. They serve freshly roasted coffee, teas, and pastries from Colson Patisserie. Open from 7am-5pm everyday.
Third Falcon | Fort Greene
Fort Greene’s newest fine dining destination has Third Falcon opened, serving French food inspired by the cuisine of Brittany and Normandy with ingredients coming from local NY farms. The chef Cali Faulkner previously cooked at Crown Shy, Oxalis, and Eleven Madison Park in NYC, and Verjus in Paris.
Méson | Cobble Hill
Méson opened on the corner of Union and Hicks this month. Their menu is inspired by Spanish dishes from the Basque region, with an extensive cocktail menu and Spanish wine list. In warmer months, there is live jazz on the sidewalk outside.
Reopening of Court Street Bagels | Cobble Hill
Court Street Bagels has reopened in Cobble Hill. There are new amenities, including a coffee bar and bathroom, and credit cards are now accepted.
Nate’s Detroit Pizza | Carroll Gardens
Nate’s Detroit Pizza has opened at 451 Court Street. This is their first official permanent home, as previously they only served out of a pop-up shop at 220 Atlantic Avenue. They’ll still be selling whole pies to-go on Atlantic Avenue, while the Court Street location will serve slices only. Located between two of Carroll Gardens’ favorite pizzerias, F & F Pizzeria and Baby Luc’s, the owners are welcoming the company, saying: “This is gonna be the Murderer’s Row of Brooklyn Pizza.”
Atelier Ariana | Carroll Gardens
A new Parisian cafe opened on Smith Street in Carroll Gardens, and residents have been loving the croissants and pastries at Atelier Ariana. Ariana Barkin, who studied for six years in Paris, first opened a pop-up outside of her apartment during the pandemic. Her new location is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8am-4pm.
New Lunch Service at Avlee Greek Kitchen | Carroll Gardens
The neighborhood favorite Avlee Greek Kitchen announced that they are will now be open for lunch during the weekdays, starting at 11:00 a.m. They will remain open seven days a week, closing at 9:00 p.m.
Luna La Mer | Gowanus
This catering company has opened up a café and marketplace at 468 Fourth Avenue in Gowanus. Their dishes are French and Italian-inspired, and they have many gluten-free options! Stop by for a seasonal sweet focaccia: they switch up the flavors every few weeks based on seasonality, and they are always vegan and available regular or gluten-free. They also have a grab-and-go fridge with prepared sandwiches, meals, and sides.
Miolin Bakery | Park Slope
This new bakery on 7th Avenue is celebrating their soft opening from September 25 through October 4, with a limited menu and new items added daily. They are currently open weekdays 8am-12pm, and will eventually be open for extended hours and weekends.
Heaps Ice Cream | Park Slope
A new ice cream shop, Heaps Ice Cream, opened on 7th Avenue between Garfield Place and 1st Street. Try their Banana Bourbon Caramel ice cream, made with Jim Beam.
Nin Hao | Prospect Heights
Nin Hao comes from the founders of the of the Chinese hot pot spot MáLà Project. Nin Hao, on the other hand, is a Fujianese restaurant on Dean Street near Vanderbilt Avenue in Prospect Heights. Dishes include Sautéd Egg Tomato With Curry Shrimp, Typhoon Shelter Bombay Duck (which is actually a fish dish), and a Sizzling Pan Cumin Lamb Chop. They also serve cocktails, wine, and beer.
Dilly Dally | Prospect Heights
A new neighborhood restaurant called Dilly Dally has opened in Prospect Heights. They are Wednesdays through Sundays for dinner, and will start weekend brunch service in October. Main dishes include a barley grain bowl, ravioli squash with brown butter and sage, seared trout, and skirt steak.
Chicken Coop | Prospect Heights
Chicken Coop is a new chicken restaurant at 6th & Bergen Street in Prospect Heights. They describe themselves as a “fast-casual Portuguese Rotisserie chicken concept” and are open 11am to 11pm 7 days per week.
Briscola Trattoria | Crown Heights
Briscola Trattoria describes itself as a “modern Italian trattoria with a retro heart. The chef, Silvia Barban, competed on Top Chef and also owns Larina, another Italian spot in Fort Greene.
Greyz Bistro | Crown Heights
In Crown Heights, a new Caribbean Asian fusion restaurant has opened on Saint John’s Place. Greyz Bistro is open for dinner and weekend brunch, and dishes include Lo Mein noodles, jerk pork bay buns, oxtail fried rice, and a seasonal lobster roll.
Word of Mouth | Crown Heights
“Book bars” continue to pop up all over the city, and this new Crown Heights spot continues with the trend. It is a combined wine bar, bookstore, and coffee shop that also hosts evening events with authors. There is an all-day food menu, with coffee 8am-3pm, wine 12-10pm, and dinner 5-10pm.
Kellogg’s Diner | Williamsburg
Kellogg’s Diner, a Williamsburg landmark dating back to 1928, has reopened under new ownership, with a redesigned interior and new takes on American diner classics. The menu takes inspiration from Texas cooking, where the executive chef grew up. Try the hot fried chicken sandwich, Tex-Mex enchiladas, or biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast. There are also icebox pies, cakes, and sundaes for desserts, and creative cocktails to drink. Kellogg’s Diner is open daily from 5pm to 10pm, with extended hours (and eventually 24/7) coming soon.
Quarter Club is a new sports bar serving wings, burgers, fries, and more. There are pinball machines, lots of TV screens, and cozy booths to enjoy cocktails.
Katabaru | East Williamsburg
Katabaru opened this month at 128 Meserole Street, and serves southern Japanese cuisine and cocktails Tuesday through Saturday, 5pm-11pm.
The Test Brewery | Williamsburg
A new brewery called The Test Brewery opened in the space formerly occupied by the brewery Strangeways.
Coffee Check | Greenpoint
Greenpoint’s newest coffee shop is a great spot for co-working, and they even have a video production space that you can rent out. Check out the space here.
Owlee Café & Studio | Greenpoint
Another mixed-use coffee shop in Greenpoint, Owlee Café & Studio is a joint café and art gallery. They are open weekdays 8am-6pm and weekends 9am-5pm.
Taqueria El Chato | Greenpoint
Taqueria El Chato, a new fast-casual Mexican spot, opened on Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint.
Corto After Hours | Bed Stuy
Corto After Hours is a sister establishment to Corto, which is located next door and shares a backyard. While Corto is an Italian coffee shop, Corto After Hours is a nighttime spot with free aperitivo snacks with your drink between 6 and 8pm.
Wonder | Clinton Hill
Wonder, a fast-growing delivery and takeout chain describes itself as “a new kind of food hall — iconic chefs and top restaurants.” Wonder offers delivery or takeout from multiple restaurants in one order. This new location opened at 1031 Fulton Street in Clinton Hill this month.

Smør | Clinton Hill | Coming Fall 2024
This Scandinavian bakery based in East Village will open a second location on Putnam Avenue, between Downing Street and Grand Avenue. Smør will also serve small plates at night.
Kin Jo | DUMBO | Coming Fall 2024
A new omakase spot and bar is coming to DUMBO, at 11 Adams Street, next door to the Adams Street Library.
L&B Spumoni | DUMBO | Coming Fall 2024
The DUMBO location of this pizzeria has been in the works for years. However, it seems that the restaurant’s grand opening at 46 Old Fulton Street is finally coming this fall.
Blank Street Coffee | Downtown Brooklyn | Opening date TBA
The Brooklyn-based chain will be opening up a new location at 1 Boerum Place, on the corner of Boerum Place and Red Hook Lane. Blank Street serves coffee, matcha, and breakfast all day.
Prestige Market | Brooklyn Heights | Opening date TBA
A new market is coming to 60 Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights. According to signage, Prestige Market will sell burgers & sandwiches, panini & wraps, chopped salads, juices & smoothies, halal food, and breakfast fare.
Just Salad | Brooklyn Heights | Opening date TBA
A new location of the salad chain Just Salad is coming soon to 58 Court Street.
Al Dente Fresh Pasta | Park Slope | Opening date TBA
This pasta spot is coming soon to 375 5th Avenue in Park Slope.
