We will most likely have a very “Brooklyn” leadership of the City with Eric Adams, Brooklyn Borough president as the new Mayor and Brad Lander, Brooklyn City Council Member as the City’s new Comptroller. Eric Adams “I AM YOU” has won the Democratic nomination for mayor of New York City and will be the overwhelming favorite in the November general election. He will become the second Black Mayor in the City’s history. Primary election results for City Council seats in our neighborhoods project a very diverse group of local leaders including the first muslim women and first openly gay woman in our Districts.
Brad Lander, City Council member of District 39 Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Columbia Waterfront, Gowanus, Park Slope and other neighborhoods will be the next New York City Comptroller. He follows Scott Stringer in the role as “Chief Financial Officer” of the City.
Antonio Reynoso will take over the position of Brooklyn Borough President from Eric Adams who will most likely be New York’s next Mayor. Antonio Reynoso currently represents Brooklyn’s 34th Council District, including Bushwick, Ridgewood, and Williamsburg. Born and raised on Williamsburg’s South side to Dominican immigrants, Antonio was elected to the Council in 2013.

Lincoln Restler who grew up in Brooklyn Heights will take over Steve Levin’s City Council seat for District 33. He is a founding member of a group called New Kings Democrats working to bring transparency, accountability, and integrity to Brooklyn politics. In 2014, he led the design and implementation of IDNYC, which can now be found in the wallets of over 1 million New Yorkers – providing the first U.S. government issued photo identification for many of the city’s 600,000 undocumented residents. For “unbanked” New Yorkers, he negotiated the creation of safe, affordable bank accounts that have benefited thousands of people.
Shahana Hanif who is the winner of the City Council seat in District 39 is a Kensington-born and raised daughter of Bangladeshi immigrants. Most recently she served as the Director of Organizing and Community Engagement in Councilmember Brad Lander’s District 39 office where she led grassroots initiatives like Participatory Budgeting. She will be both the first Muslim woman and the first South Asian person elected to New York City Council.
Crystal Hudson will most likely take over the City Council seat of Laurie Combo for District 35 . She lives in Prospect Heights, where her family has been for three generations. If elected, Crystal will be the first openly gay Black woman elected to the New York City Council. Her priorities are COVID-19 recovery, education and housing for the neighborhoods of Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and Bed-Stuy.
