Free swim lessons in public pools this summer in Gowanus & Brooklyn Navy Yard

New York’s free public pools will open on Wednesday, June 27th and will close on Sunday, September 9th.

NYC Parks will offer free Learn to Swim classes for toddlers (1 1/2 to 5 years old) and children (6 to 17 years old) at the pools in the Navy Yard and Gowanus this summer. Weekday morning sessions will be held during July and August.

  • Session 1: July 6 – July 19
  • Session 2: July 23 – August 3
  • Session 3: August 7 – August 17
  • Advanced Session: August 20 – August 24

You can register yourself or a child for up to three sessions in the online lottery now. Lottery registration will end at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, June 24 for Session 1, noon on Monday, July 9 for Session 2, noon on Monday, July 30 for Session 3, and noon on Monday, August 13 for Advance learn to swim. You will be notified by email of the lottery results. If you don’t get a spot, your child will be wait-listed.

Your child must be 1.5 years of age on the first day of class in order to participate in the children’s program. You must bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate or an equivalent document on the day of the first class to show proof of age.

Douglas and DeGraw Third Avenue and Nevins Street in Gowanus.
