Plans for Bridge Park 2 in DUMBO move ahead

The makeover of Bridge Park 2 which is located behind the F train stop at York Street in DUMBO was presented by Community Board 2’s Parks and Recreation Committee and has been submitted to the Public Design Commission. It will be moving ahead at the Tuesday, Jan. 2 CB2 general board meeting.

The project will reconstruct the existing playground with 2-5 and 5-12 play equipment, swings, spray shower and construct a new adult fitness area and a multi-purpose synthetic turf field with a performance stage. The work will also include an art area, benches, fences, drainage and water supply and planting.

Jehovas Witnesses agreed in 2004 to renovate Bridge Park 2 when the city rezoned 85 Jay Street which the Witnesses owned. Recently, the Department of Parks and Recreation officials and Levin negotiated a settlement of $7 million with the Jehovas Witnesses to renovate the park which is expected to be completed in 2020.
