State Education Department identifies Recognition Schools in our neighborhoods

The State Education Department has identified 562 high achieving and high progress schools as “2018-19 Recognition Schools” in the State of New York. Under New York’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan, these Recognition Schools have high academic achievement, student growth and graduation rate, decreasing rate of Chronic Absenteeism, met the federally required 95 percent participation rate in the English language arts and mathematics assessments and have made progress during the 2017-18 school year. Of the identified schools, 241 are located in New York City, 280 are located in the rest of the state and 41 are public charter schools.

  • Brooklyn Tech High School in Downtown Brooklyn
  • Bedford Academy High School in Bed Stuy
  • Ascend Charter School that might be opening a location in DUMBO

Schools in District 15:

  • PS 38 in Downtown Brooklyn
  • PS 39 in Park Slope
  • PS 131 in Borough Park
  • PS 295 in South Slope
  • New Voices School of Academic and Creative Arts in South Slope
