Things to look forward to this spring

The Coney Island amusement parks are reopening to the public on April 9th at 33% capacity on weekends after being closed since 2019.

Governors Island is opening to the public on May 1st! The island will be open weekdays 10 am to 6 pm and on weekends from 10 am to 7 pm through 10/31. New this year: Weekend ferry service will depart from Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park and from Red Hook. Ferry rides will be free for seniors, children and public housing residents. Tickets for May dates will be available soon.

The roller rink at Pier 2 in Brooklyn Bridge Park is reopening for the 2021 season on Friday April 16th. Skate Rental is $7 during all sessions. (Skates start at a Toddler Size 7). Skate Mates are $7 during all sessions. They will also host birthday parties this year again. Find out more here.

The legendary Downtown Brooklyn restaurant Gage & Tollner located on Fulton Street is set to open on April 15th! For more than a century the original Gage & Tollner was the cornerstone of the Brooklyn restaurant world. After going through multiple owners and decades of operation, it closed its doors on Valentine’s Day, 2004. The restaurant will serve American cuisine including NY Strip, fried chicken, pork pot pie, chicken liver pate and crab cake. Find out more here.

Pilot is a seasonal oyster bar aboard one of America’s most prized wooden schooners that will be docked at Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park as of May 15. You can start making reservations now.

Based on a 2020 pilot program at Red Hook and Flatbush Libraries, the Brooklyn Public Library plans to set up BPL Outdoors this spring at 20 branches around the borough. The idea is to duplicate their indoor branch space, offering places for people to sit and talk, read, use our WiFi, or just relax. At select branches, they will also offer book carts for browsing.
