The Noel Pointer Foundation is a non-profit organization launched 30 years ago in 1995 to honor the memory of Grammy-nominated jazz violinist Noel Pointer, a platinum-selling artist who loved performing in inner city communities and believed strongly that teaching a child a string instrument had the potential to change the entire trajectory of their life. Starting with 18 children at PS 44 in Brooklyn, NPF now operates music programs in close to 50 schools and daycare centers, having served over 35,000 students in all five boroughs. The on-campus NPF Preparatory Program offers an Ensemble Program, a Solo Program, and Music Enrichment Electives from September through May with programming for ages 9 months to adults. Registration is now OPEN for 2026-2027 programs (September 2026-May 2027). NEW CLASS ALERT! Parents, ready to pick up your instrument again? Whether it has been six months or twenty years, come make some music with us! This welcoming community class introduces adults to the fundamentals of bebop and jazz improvisation. All instruments are welcome. Basic scale knowledge is encouraged; jazz experience is not required. Bring your instrument, your curiosity, and a love for music! Trial class: Thursday September 17th 6 – 7 PM.
Meet Paloma — a Brooklyn Heights cellist with a doctorate in music and 20+ years of teaching under her belt, now taking on students of all ages through her Suzuki-based studio. Lessons are patient and hands-on (parents welcome!), with kids building real skills through listening, home practice, and twice-a-year recitals with the whole studio cheering each other on. Spots are limited each semester, so if your kid (or you!) has been wanting to pick up the cello, now’s the time to get on the list.
