Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, which means a full day of costumes, parades and candy with no school-night bedtime looming. Our annual Halloween Guide rounds up free, family-friendly fall fun and spooktacular events across Brooklyn. Organizers are still announcing their October plans, so we will keep adding events as they are confirmed — check back often! Ragamuffin Parade | Bay Ridge

Kick off the season with the 60th annual Ragamuffin Parade, a Bay Ridge tradition since 1966. Kids in costume march up Third Avenue cheered on by the whole neighborhood. Marchers register between 11am and 12:30pm at Our Lady of Angels on 74th Street, then line up at 12:30pm on 76th Street; spectators can just turn up anywhere along Third. Brooklyn Bridge Parents and Atlantic Terminal Mall turn the plaza and car-free Fort Greene Place into an urban pumpkin patch — pick out a pumpkin and decorate it, climb through the haunted trucks, build with blocks and dance along with the DJ. Dumbo’s beloved Halloween tradition: parade behind brass bands and puppets through Brooklyn Bridge Park to the Archway, where crafts, a photo booth, live music, candy and costume prizes await. The Howl-O-Ween dog costume contest follows at 4pm, 50+ local businesses hand out candy around the neighborhood (look for the pumpkin sign), and spooky projections light up the Manhattan Bridge nightly from October 23.
