In 2020, as part of an NYC Parks initiative to expand the representation of African Americans honored in parks, “Bridge Park 2” was renamed for pioneering physician Dr. Susan Smith McKinney Steward. Thanks to a $7.5M donation, McKinney Park is undergoing a renovation featuring playground elements and water sprinklers for ages 2 to 12, adult fitness area and synthetic turf for community events like movie nights and concerts.
