Our ultimate guide to the best Holiday markets, traditions and events in Manhattan and Brooklyn (sponsored)

The holiday season in New York City is a magical time, with Manhattan and Brooklyn bursting with festive cheer. As local real estate agents serving neighborhoods like DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, Clinton Hill, Midtown East, the Upper West Side and Tribeca, Debbie Zolan and Jackie Rossiter from the The Zolan Rossiter Team @ Compass share their holiday favorites.

“I live in DUMBO and there is a lot to do during the season in my neighborhood,” Debbie says. “Right under the Manhattan Bridge and across the street from where I live, the Brooklyn Flea Market is an ideal spot to find unique gifts and enjoy local food. I can take a short stroll down the block and indulge in a Wicked Hot Chocolate at Jacques Torres Chocolate. I love to send their mini chocolate bars to my clients every year. You can then simply cross the street after and check out the seasonal events and pop up shops at Empire Stores. The building is so beautiful and the views of the water and Manhattan are a huge plus. From workshops to art installations, there’s something for everyone.”

Debbie and her family celebrate Chanukah and indulge in the special sufganiyot (jelly donuts) at Mah-Ze-Dahr Bakery. She also has fond memories of bundling up her son, when he was a baby, and driving through Dyker Heights to see the over-the-top Christmas light decorations with life-size Santas, sleighs and snowmen taking over the neighborhood. It was an annual tradition that they didn’t miss.

Jackie’s family also makes an annual pilgrimage to Dyker Heights. Having been born and raised in Bay Ridge, this is something she did with her parents and has kept it up with her children.

She also loves the Holiday Market at Union Square where her kids rush to find the apple cider donuts and decadent hot chocolate with marshmallows. With an array of vendors offering crafts, artwork, and gourmet treats, this market captures the essence of the holiday season right in the heart of Manhattan and you’re guaranteed to find a special gift for everyone on your list.

Jackie also recommends Disney’s The Santa Clauses Winter Wonderland at The Rooftop at Pier 17 with breathtaking views of the dazzling city skyline on Manhattan’s only rooftop skating rink. Grab seasonal treats, hot chocolate, and themed drinks.

For adult holiday fun, visit Frosty’s Christmas Pop-Up Bar in Times Square. For those 21 and over, experience a space with thousands of lights, huge life-size toy soldiers, ribbons, big and bright baubles, stockings, giant ornaments, seasonal music and cocktails.
