The PTA of P.S. 261 Philip Livingston in Boerum Hill has officially started the process to rename the school in honor of its beloved former principal, Zipporiah Mills. Principal Mills led 261 from 2005 to 2016 and sadly passed away in October 2021. At a community memorial, she was lovingly remembered as the lifeblood of the school and bedrock upon which the community’s dynamic and diverse core was founded. The renaming process will next be addressed at the District 15 Community Education Council meeting on January 25 before heading to the NYC Department of Education for further review. If ultimately approved, the school would be renamed P.S. 261 The Zipporiah Mills School.
