Purim celebrations for Brooklyn families

This year, Purim falls on Thursday, March 13, and Friday, March 14, bringing with it a joyful celebration of Jewish history. The holiday remembers the triumph of Queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai over Haman, a royal advisor who sought to wipe out the Jewish people in ancient Persia. The festivities include reading the Book of Esther (the Megillah), giving food and charity, and sharing a festive meal. Families celebrate by baking hamantashen pastries, dressing in costumes, wearing masks, and embracing the fun and revelry that define the holiday.
