Recycle your Christmas tree in the neighborhood

A. The Department of Sanitation will collect clean, non-bagged trees left on the curb through Saturday, January 12, 2019. City residents should remove all tree stands, tinsel, lights and ornaments from trees before they are put out for collection. Trees collected through Saturday will be chipped, mixed with leaves, and recycled into rich compost for the city’s parks, institutions, and community gardens. Those wishing to dispose of mostly plastic and metal Christmas trees should remove all ornaments and put them out next to their recycling on regular recycling days.

B. Bring it to Mulchfest at Brooklyn Bridge Plaza in DUMBO. You can bring your tree to the Plaza for chipping on January 12 & 13 from 10am to 2pm. Watch your tree get chipped in front of you, and get a free bag of mulch to take home. Please remember to remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, netting, etc. before bringing it to the drop off site. Trees with decorations will not be accepted.

C. On Saturday 1/12 and Sunday 1/13, bring your trees to Fort Greene Park from 10 am to 2pm and they’ll give it back to you in a bag. Use the mulch to enrich your garden or give it to the park to enrich our local green space. Full details here.

D. On Saturday 1/12 and Sunday 1/13, bring your trees to Cobble Hill Park from 10 am to 2pm to get chipped and they’ll give it back to you in a bag of mulch to use in your backyard or to make a winter bed for a street tree
