From Park Slope Parents: Domestic workers during COVID-19

Nannies and housekeepers, on or off the books, documented or undocumented, can apply for unemployment if they’re no longer being paid. If you know of nannies who have been left high and dry you should tell them that they are still able to apply for unemployment. Here’s more information:  https://labor.ny.gov/legal/laws/pdf/domestic-workers/facts-for-employers.pdf

Employers can also pay taxes retroactively for the (for at least 2 quarters) in order to get their nannies on the books and therefore unemployment so they don’t have to face steep fines for not paying on the books if their nanny needs to file unemployment.

Below are links to Park Slope Parents webinars and FAQ and resources for those employing domestic workers.  It is not intended as legal advice and serves as guidance from webinars for domestic work employees and employers who need a foundation and direction during this crisis.
