Nannies and housekeepers, on or off the books, documented or undocumented, can apply for unemployment if they’re no longer being paid. If you know of nannies who have been left high and dry you should tell them that they are still able to apply for unemployment. Employers can also pay taxes retroactively for the (for at least 2 quarters) in order to get their nannies on the books and therefore unemployment so they don’t have to face steep fines for not paying on the books if their nanny needs to file unemployment.
