New Charter school opening in Downtown Brooklyn

Brooklyn RISE, a K to 5th Grade Charter School is taking over the space of the German School Brooklyn at 9 Hanover Place for next school year. The German School Brooklyn will move to a brand new school building in Crown Heights.

“Brooklyn RISE Charter School builds the knowledge, habits, and mindsets for academic success, ensuring all Kindergarten through 5th grade students are on the path to college. We believe that all students can achieve at high levels when they are given the attention and targeted supports that they need. Our two-teacher model in every classroom allows us to provide at least two hours of small-group instruction for every student, every day. This allows us to meet each student where they are academically and provide them with the supports they need to be successful. We believe that students need more time to acquire the knowledge, habits, and mindsets for academic success. We provide additional learning time (8:15-4:15) and days of learning throughout the year to ensure students are given the time they need to grow and develop as learners.”

Every grade will have 2 classes, 26 students each with 2 teachers, a 13:1 student to teacher ratio. They offer a fee-based after school program for all students until 6 pm. School hours will be Monday to Thursday: 8:15 am- 4:15 pm and Friday: 8:15 am- 1:30 pm. They do not offer foreign languages at the moment. Just like the German School Brooklyn closed Hanover Place for recess outside within the Open Streets program, they plan to continue the Open Streets Program on Hanover Place.

The District 15 school is currently accepting applications for Kindergarten to 4th Grade this fall and welcomes out-of-district applications. Find out more here.
