Free kid-friendly events this week in Brooklyn (3/23-3/29)

This week is packed with events to welcome spring and celebrate Easter. You also don’t want to miss the King Henry Magic Show in Gerritsen Beach, a special storytime and roller skating party in Brooklyn Bridge Park, an eco-fair in Marine Park, and the blessing of the rides in Coney Island. There are two events to support families in Williamsburg and Coney Island. And make sure teens head to the Brooklyn Heights Library to watch Fahrenheit 451 and discuss why it’s a banned book!

Chess Workshop | Gravesend

Jack and Friends Presents: Funkytown Playground YOGA | Park Slope

Join the Park Slope Library for Jack and Friends Presents:  Funkytown Playground YOGA! Follow along as Aly Sunshine leads a fun and family-friendly introduction to yoga. Families will get to warm up, practice breathing and poses, and relax into a power down. Please bring your own yoga mat. Wear comfortable clothing for exercise. Register in advance.

New Mom Meet Up at Fontainhas | DUMBO

Bring your baby to Fontainhas for some cozy chai and hang with other new moms. Hosted every week by the new mom pop-up POST.

Take advantage of free admission hours at the New York Aquarium from 3:00-6:00pm on Wednesdays. Note that advance timed tickets are required (max of 4 per group); the Wednesday Afternoon Ticket Store will open on Monday at 3:00pm for that Wednesday’s reservations.

Teen Time: Banned Books to the Movies | Brooklyn Heights

Oscar winning actor, Michael B. Jordan, stars in the 2018 version of Fahrenheit 451.  This is a popular adaptation of the much banned and challenged book by the same name by Ray Bradbury.  The story introduces a time period when books are burned and those who owned them are punished – sometimes by a vicious robot dog! Why is this book challenged? Teens will get to discuss their thoughts at Brooklyn Heights Library. Snacks will be provided. Please note this is an earlier start time than usual to get through the whole movie.

Afternoon Storytime with Emily Winfield Martin: The Wildest Thing | Carroll Gardens

Stop by Books Are Magic’s Smith Street location for their storytime with author Emily Winfield Martin, author of The Wildest Thing. This story beautifully expresses a timeless message about little ones unleashing their inner “wild” and encouraging their budding imagination and unique individuality.

King Henry Magic Show | Gerritsen Beach

Guy Zoda, aka “King Henry”, spent 17 seasons as an on-field entertainer and community ambassador for the Brooklyn Cyclones. Now, you can see him perform his signature magic show at Gerritsen Beach Library! Come by for fun, laughs, magic, and silly entertainment from this one-of-a-kind “Chief of Fun”.

Lavender Blues | Crown Heights

This is your last chance to catch Lavender Blues at the Brower Park Library. Don’t miss this high energy performance for babies and toddlers! Tickets are given out starting at 10:00am and it is recommended to come early to get them.

Community Access Thursdays at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum | Crown Heights

Thursdays | 2:00pm-5:00pm | Reserving tickets in advance is recommended

Explore some of the museum’s most-loved exhibits, including toddler-favorite Totally Tots, the miniature shops of World Brooklyn, our NEST kids’ climber, and more. Then check out ColorLab, the family art studio located on the 2nd floor of the Museum, where artists of all ages can explore, make, and celebrate art. Plus, say hello to BCM’s live animals at Animal Encounters, which repeats twice, first from 3:00-3:20pm and again from 3:45-4:05 pm. It’s recommended that you reserve your tickets in advance online. Walk-ins always welcome.

Storytime at Jane’s Carousel | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Hosted by Brooklyn Public Library, storytime returns for some springtime stories, songs and Friday morning fun!

Open Hours at the Environmental Education Center | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Fridays | 3:00-5:00pm

Visit the Environmental Education Center for Open Hours. Open Hours offer the opportunity for self-led investigation with guidance by expert educators to reveal the hidden stories found within and around Brooklyn Bridge Park. Explore their critter and fish tanks, a 10′ model of the Park, and enjoy custom arts, crafts, and reading materials which rotate on a monthly basis.

Grand Re-Opening Skate Party | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Roller skating at Pier 2 in Brooklyn Bridge Park is back! Admire beautiful views of the city as your family skates. Don’t miss the first skate of the season!

Trinity Grace Church Easter Egg Hunt | Park Slope

Join your neighbors and friends for Trinity Grace Church’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt in Prospect Park! Whether you’re a toddler or a “kid at heart,” they will have something for everyone. Beyond the massive egg hunt, enjoy a morning packed with games and creative crafts.

BHA’s annual egg hunt will include egg hunting fun for kids and sweet treats on sale for everyone! Families with children 3 and under should head to the Henry Chapin Playground. Families with children 4 and older should go to the Pierrepont Playground. If you have children in both age groups, pick the location that works best for you. Bay Ridge Resource Fair & Storytime in Mandarin | Bay Ridge

Urban Park Rangers: Spring Has Sprung Hike | Prospect Park

Lace up your hiking shoes and head to the Zucker Natural Exploration Area in Prospect Park. Join the Urban Park Rangers on a woodland walk through the first wave of springtime blooms. Breaking the Stigma Workshop: Supporting Children with Special Needs | Coney Island

Women’s History Month Event for Youth and Families |Prospect Heights

In celebration of Women’s History Month at the Brooklyn Public Library, this special performance at the Central Library honors the artistry, strength, and cultural legacy of women through three contrasting works drawn from Chinese and Asian dance traditions. The program moves from radiant elegance to intimate lyricism and, finally, to bold heroism—offering audiences a vivid and accessible way to reflect on women’s contributions across cultures and throughout history.

Senator Roxanne J. Persaud, SD 19 Easter Egg Hunt | Canarsie

41st Annual “Blessing of the Rides” | Coney Island
