Free kid-friendly events this week in Brooklyn (3/30-4/5)

This week is full of Easter celebrations! Families can also look forward to a bilingual concert in Bed-Stuy, a kids cooking class in Crown Heights, a young adult book club in Fort Greene, a Family Feud trivia night in Sheepshead Bay, a storytime for Passover and Easter in Kensington, a Japanese makers market in Sunset Park, and much more!

MONDAY

Jesse Goldman – Moozika! | Bed-Stuy

Monday, March 30th | 3:00pm

Come dance, sing, and play instruments at the Marcy Library. Join Jesse Goldman for playful Spanish – English tunes that are powered by an ethos of big love and gentleness. For this show, Jesse will be performing solo tunes off his upcoming Moozika! album ‘We Are One.’

Women’s History Month Celebration: Rock ‘N’ Roll Homecrest! | Homecrest

Come rock out at the Homecrest Library for Women’s History Month. They will be having a family-friendly live musical performance.

Kids Create: Super Mario Origami | Kensington

Join for a special Kids Create where participants at the Kensington Library will be making Super Mario related origami characters & receiving 3D printed toads!

New Mom Meet Up at Fontainhas | DUMBO

Tuesdays | 4:30pm-6:00pm

Bring your baby to Fontainhas for some cozy chai and hang with other new moms. Hosted every week by the new mom pop-up POST.

Free Admission at New York Aquarium | Coney Island

Wednesdays | 3:00pm-6:00pm | Reserve tickets here; free tickets are made available at 3pm the Monday before

Take advantage of free admission hours at the New York Aquarium from 3:00-6:00pm on Wednesdays. Note that advance timed tickets are required (max of 4 per group); the Wednesday Afternoon Ticket Store will open on Monday at 3:00pm for that Wednesday’s reservations.

Cooking Matters for Kids with City Harvest | Crown Heights

Wednesday, April 1st | 4:00pm-5:00pm | Ages 7-12

Children can take free cooking and nutrition classes, led by City Harvest, at the Crown Heights Library starting April 1st. During this four week program, children will learn how to cook healthy foods as well as play fun games!

Young Adult Book Group | Fort Greene

Wednesday, April 1st | 6:00pm-7:00pm | Ages 13 and up | Register here

Led by Greenlight bookseller Micah, the YA Book Group is a space for the curious young reader interested in a curated, intentionally diverse and broad selection of books. For April, the group will be discussing Things Fall Apart by acclaimed Nigerian novelist, poet, and critic Chinua Achebe. The most widely read book in modern African literature, Things Fall Apart tells two overlapping, intertwining stories, both of which centerer around a fearless Igbo warrior in late 1800s Nigeria, before and after the European colonization of the continent. A powerful fable of perfectly harmonized twin dramas, Things Fall Aparts is the most illuminating and permanent monument we have to the modern African experience as seen from within. Pizza will be provided.

Community Access Thursdays at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum | Crown Heights

Thursdays | 2:00pm-5:00pm | Reserving tickets in advance is recommended

Explore some of the museum’s most-loved exhibits, including toddler-favorite Totally Tots, the miniature shops of World Brooklyn, our NEST kids’ climber, and more. Then check out ColorLab, the family art studio located on the 2nd floor of the Museum, where artists of all ages can explore, make, and celebrate art. Plus, say hello to BCM’s live animals at Animal Encounters, which repeats twice, first from 3:00-3:20pm and again from 3:45-4:05 pm. It’s recommended that you reserve your tickets in advance online. Walk-ins always welcome.

Annual Rugby Easter Egg Hunt | East Flatbush

Thursday, April 2nd | 3:00pm-5:00pm | Ages 0-12

Join the Rugby Library for a fun afternoon Easter egg hunt! Arrive early for tickets. Ages 0-5 will be at 3:15pm, ages 6-9 will be at 3:45pm, and ages 10-12 will be at 4:15pm. The rain date will be April 4th from 12:00pm-2:00pm.

Family Feud Trivia Night | Sheepshead Bay

Get ready for an exciting trivia night themed around world history at the Kings Highway Library. Brush up on your world history knowledge, and get ready to enjoy learning together!

 

FRIDAY

American Sign Language Storytime | Crown Heights

Friday, April 3rd | 10:30am-11:00am

Brower Park will host an American Sign Language (ASL) Storytime. This storytime will be led by a Deaf performer and will be voice-off, meaning the presenter will be using ASL to read the story, with writing and sound projected behind her. Whether you are part of a multilingual family or an excited learner, everyone is encouraged to come be a part of this wonderful storytime experience!

Red Hook Pinball Museum | Red Hook

Fridays | 1-10pm

With a new location at 362 Van Brunt Street, the Red Hook Pinball Museum is now open for free play (with donations accepted) every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 1-10pm! It’s NYC’s only vintage pinball museum, with games from 1871-1971, and you can play on the first pinball machine ever made!

Open Hours at the Environmental Education Center | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Fridays | 3:00-5:00pm

Visit the Environmental Education Center for Open Hours. Open Hours offer the opportunity for self-led investigation with guidance by expert educators to reveal the hidden stories found within and around Brooklyn Bridge Park. Explore their critter and fish tanks, a 10′ model of the Park, and enjoy custom arts, crafts, and reading materials which rotate on a monthly basis.

Join the Brooklyn Bird Club and Prospect Park Alliance on the first Sunday of each month in search of the dozens of bird species that visit the park through all seasons. Learn about the different habitats in Prospect Park and why they are important for all types of birds. Please bring your own binoculars.
