A summer where every week is a new adventure at Brooklyn Preschool of Science (sponsored)

Brooklyn Preschool of Science is turning up the heat this summer with a joyfully messy, curiosity-fueled Summer Science Program that will have your child begging to go to “school” even when school’s out. Each week, children dive into a new theme—dinosaurs, bugs, pirates, and more—through hands-on experiments, creative projects, outdoor adventures, and visits from special guests who bring science to life in the most unforgettable ways.

A summer where every week is a new adventure

Instead of one long, blended camp, our summer is organized into weekly themes so kids can fully immerse themselves in a topic, then come back for a completely different world the next week. Every week includes:

  • Daily science investigations and lab-style experiments
  • Outdoor water play, nature walks, and park time
  • Specialists in music, movement, animals, or art
  • Collaborative projects that build across the week
  • A Friday “wow” moment or culminating event

We keep the structure familiar and comforting for young children while changing the content to keep returning campers excited and engaged.

Sample themes and weeks

Roar, Roar Dinosaur

Future paleontologists, this one’s for you.

Children become “dino detectives,” learning how scientists use clues to understand creatures from long ago. Activities might include:

  • Excavating “fossils” from plaster or sand with real tools
  • Making dinosaur footprint tracks and measuring stride lengths
  • Comparing teeth and claws to learn about herbivores vs carnivores
  • Building mini dinosaur habitats and talking about what these giants needed to survive

The week ends with a Dino Museum Day, where parents can tour a gallery of bones, fossils, and art created by the kids.

Don’t Bug Me Week

Get ready for six legs, wings, and lots of “ewww… wow!”

Campers explore the tiny animals that run our world: insects and other small critters. They might:

  • Hunt for bugs in a nearby park, using magnifiers and collection jars
  • Build bug hotels and learn what insects need to feel at home
  • Create butterfly life-cycle art and watch real caterpillars transform (when possible)
  • Act out pollination as bees, flowers, and wind

By Friday, kids proudly present their favorite “specimen” and share one amazing bug fact they discovered.

Pirate Science Week

Yo-ho-ho and a tub of experiments.

Our pirates sail through physics, navigation, and chemistry with a playful twist. Activities may include:

  • Designing and testing toy boats to see which shapes float best
  • Mixing “pirate potions” that bubble, fizz, and change color
  • Creating treasure maps and following directions using basic coordinates
  • Building simple compasses and talking about magnets and direction

The week culminates in a treasure hunt where kids use their new science skills to crack clues and find the hidden “booty.”

Specialists, outdoors, and plenty of play

This is still summer, which means sunshine, water tables, and lots of movement. Each week, children:

  • Spend time outdoors for gross-motor play, nature observation, and simple experiments that are better done outside (think erupting volcanoes or giant bubble challenges)
  • Meet visiting specialists—like animal educators, music and movement teachers, or art facilitators—who connect their expertise to that week’s science theme
  • Enjoy open-ended playtime with STEM-rich materials such as blocks, sensory bins, ramps, and loose parts

The result is a camp that feels like a joyful blend of a science lab, an art studio, and a playground.

Built for young scientists

As with our school-year program, the Summer Science Program at Brooklyn Preschool of Science is thoughtfully designed for early learners. We keep groups small, activities hands-on, and explanations clear and concrete. Kids don’t just hear facts; they pour, mix, build, observe, and discover them.
