Beloved Atlantic Fruit and Vegetable closed its location at 181 Atlantic Avenue on February 6, 2023. Their other family-owned location, K & Y Fruit & Vegetable, located at 291 Court Street, will remain open. The current building is in the Brooklyn Heights Historic District and will be demolished for a new four-story contextual building, including a traditional storefront configuration. The landmarks (Certificate of Appropriateness) permit was issued on March 8, 2021. The new building will feature quality materials, such as a wood and metal storefront; a metal cornice; and cast-stone lintels.
The Atlantic Avenue BID has not been able to make contact with the owner, Ki Yol Kim, to see if he is interested in moving his business somewhere else in the neighborhood. Mr. Kim will continue to be the owner of the forthcoming building. A sign at the location stated that the business would return to the new location after construction is completed.
