Just over 35 percent of New York City’s 3rd through 8th graders passed this year’s state math exams, up 1% over last year. In English, just over 30 percent of students passed — a 2% increase.
This was the third year the state tests were aligned to tougher learning standards known as Common Core which tests students in grades 3 to 8 in math and English.
Here is the overview of public elementary and middle schools in our neighborhood:
PS 8: 63% of all students were proficient or excelled the Math Common Core Learning Standards, while 64% were proficient or excelled the ELA Common Core Learning Standards in 2015.
PS 29: 83% of all students were proficient or excelled the Math Common Core Learning Standards, while 77% were proficient or excelled the ELA Common Core Learning Standards in 2015.
PS 307: 20% of all students were proficient or excelled the Math Common Core Learning Standards, while 12% were proficient or excelled the ELA Common Core Learning Standards in 2015.
Satellite West Middle School (above PS 307): 18% of all students were proficient or excelled the Math Common Core Learning Standards, while 11% were proficient or excelled the ELA Common Core Learning Standards in 2015.
PS 287: 10% of all students were proficient or excelled the Math Common Core Learning Standards, while 13% were proficient or excelled the ELA Common Core Learning Standards in 2015.
PS 261: 60% of all students were proficient or excelled the Math Common Core Learning Standards, while 60% were proficient or excelled the ELA Common Core Learning Standards in 2015.
