What parents living in DUMBO with oldest children born in 2011 or younger need to know now about the rezoning and their new community elementary school PS 307:
- Kindergarten applications are closed now.
- The District 13 Superintendent Freeman has convened a working group in collaboration with the DOE’s Office of District Planning, CEC13 and community members. Its initial focus is to support the diverse communities in the newly-formed P.S. 307 zone in working together, and to take concrete steps to assist P.S. 307 in its efforts to maintain and expand its school programs. Additional aspects of its future mission are under discussion. The formation of this group has just begun, stay tuned for more details.

The chancellor Carmen Farina sent an email to the CEC 13 after the vote on 1/6 stating: “CEC Members, it is not often that ordinary citizens have an opportunity to take a courageous stand and change the course of many children’s lives. I know that last night’s decision involved a lot of soul searching and careful deliberation on all of your parts. I congratulate you on looking toward the future and for understanding that together we can forge a better school system for all of our students. You have set a high bar for other CECs to meet, and I encourage you to think of next steps in creating a district-wide plan to fit the needs of your growing community.”
- PS 307 is hosting open houses for prospective parents on February 5 from 9 to 10 am, February 26th from 9 to 10 am and Saturday, February 27 from 11 am to 12 noon. No need to register.
- PS 307 runs an expansive STEM-infused, full day Pre-K program. Cluster classes are music, art, physical education and Mandarin weekly. Daily recess takes place at the Pre-K exclusive playground. After school program is until 6 pm available. Families with children born in 2012 can apply here from January 25 to March 4, 2016.
- Why choose PS 307? “As a DUMBO family with two small children, the oldest of whom is currently attending pre-K at PS 307, our experience has been wonderful. It is obvious to us that the staff, students, and current community care deeply about the school and have been successful in creating a fostering learning environment.” -Parents of Oscar, DUMBO Resident and Pre-K student at PS 307 (below in turquoise shirt).
