The City has announced first official steps regarding public outreach and an environmental review for the Brooklyn Queens Connector project. The BQX which also has a new website is a streetcar planned for 11 miles from Red Hook in Brooklyn to Astoria in Queens. The current proposed route which is not final would include stops in Red Hook, at the Columbia Waterfront, at Atlantic Avenue, in Downtown Brooklyn and at the Navy Yard. 90% of the route would be operated on an exclusive lane, trains would arrive every 5-10 minutes in busy times, cars would be stroller-friendly and emission-free.
NYC DOT & EDC will be hosting five workshops in the upcoming weeks, starting with their first at Brooklyn Borough Hall in Downtown Brooklyn. These workshops are designed to engage residents with the project, familiarize them with the streetcar’s route, as well as solicit feedback on how aspects of the project can be improved. The workshops are open to the public.
