Set Up Community Dinner with Local Refugee Families at St. Ann’s Church | Brooklyn Heights
Each month we host a Community Dinner and invite community members to meet and make connections with newly arrived refugees. Set up volunteers will be tasked with setting up the tables, making place cards, decorating, among other duties. You will help the refugee family warm the meal they bring and assist them in plating the food. You will act as hosts throughout the evening and also help clean up if you are able to stay through the end of dinner (encouraged, but not required). We welcome youth ages 8-18 to sign up as SET UP VOLUNTEER . Whether you’re just starting out or have already joined the birding ranks, this introductory outing is for you! Every Saturday, join Prospect Park Alliance and a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club on an introductory walk to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. All levels are welcome and walks will begin at the Prospect Park Audubon Center. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring binoculars if you have them. Route Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps, slight inclines, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.

The next hour, the kids will start with basketball clinics and AirOdart Clinics with our coaches, each separated by age group: 12/13; 14/15; 16/17. During the final hour, we will have our Youth apply the skills that they’ve just learned during the official basketball games simultaneously. Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation is back with its eighth annual Art is Alive festival in The Space @ Irondale. The day will feature performances, workshops, and classes featuring art forms and artists from the African Diasporic experience. Highlight of the festival will include:
- 12-2 pm | Dance Classes | 45 minutes each, dance classes hosted by Asase Yaa School of the Arts in Afrobeat, Caribbean, and Hip Hop
- 1pm | Workshop | Resources for Raising a Child Artist Workshophosted by Asase Yaa in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygien
- 4-7pm | Live Performances | Asase Yaa Youth Ensemble, Batalá New York, FIYAA Forces of Nature Incredible Youth Arts Alliance, Plezi Rara, and Soul Science Lab
Garden as Catalyst: Create Your Own Artwork at The Old Stone House | Park Slope
Create your own artwork with a selection of papers inspired by the colors, shapes, and textures of the Old Stone House gardens. Let the garden guide your creative adventure. Before embarking on an afternoon of creative making, take a look or walk through the gardens. Use that experience and mix it with a selection of handmade papers to create your own artwork.This is not a how-to workshop. This is an invitation to observe and use your intuition to create.
Coastal Cleanup | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Volunteers, as a group, cleanup our coastlines by helping to remove debris that has washed into the marshes and beaches with the tides. Volunteers of all ages are welcome (under 16’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). No volunteer orientation or experience is required, but note that this activity may involve some rock scrambling.
