Gleason’s Gym will be leaving its Front Street home after 31 years and will relocate to 55 Washington Street along Water Street one block away. The new gym will be inside the Two Trees Building with Equinox and Peas & Pickles. The landlord Two Trees of the current space needed the space back for a new project, no information is yet available about the new project.
The 79-year-old gym owner Bruce Silverglade told the Brooklyn Paper: “My space after 31 years has been run down, and particularly the showers and the bathrooms aren’t as nice. Everybody is happy, because it is going to be new.”
The new space will be 12,800 square feet, only slightly smaller than the current 14,000-square-foot space. Silverglade said he will make up for the missing space by making offices smaller. The space for the actual gym — which includes five boxing rings, 10 heavy bags and an assortment of workout equipment — will remain the same.
The move is scheduled to take place in August.
