Heartseat brings arty seating to Pearl Street Triangle in DUMBO

Check out the new art installation “Heartseat” at the Pearl Street Triangle on display until May 1. Created by a Brooklyn-based design studio HeartSeat was originally commissioned for the juried Times Square Valentine Heart Design Competition, where it greeted thousands of visitors last month first as a heart-shaped participative installation and then transformed into the current public seating element. Trading bright lights of Broadway for the quieter but no less iconic spot next to the Manhattan Bridge, HeartSeat offers an intimate and interactive addition to DUMBO’s Pearl Street Triangle plaza.

This is the third year that DUMBO has offered a second home for winners of the Times Square Valentine Heart Competition. DUMBO hosted Situ Studio’s Heartwalk, a glowing 30-ft installation made from Hurricane Sandy-salvaged boardwalk wood, in 2013 and Young Architect’s zodiac-inspired Matchmaker sculpture, in 2014.
