Kid-friendly events and activities in February

A breathtaking juggling show, the BAM Kids film festival, Lunar New Year celebrations, heart-shaped pizza-making workshops, winter olympics and more happening in-person in February.

Juggling Circus Reflex Show

This one man juggling show breaking down the art, history, physics and rhythm of juggling in a breathtaking way is as much pleasure for grown-ups as for the kiddos. Reflex Show is playing until February 19th, 2022 at theater space Mitu580 in Gowanus. Tickets are $40 per person and the show is best suited for children 8 years and up. Get tickets here.

BAMkids Film Festival 2022 | Feb 5 and 6

Come over to BAM for the 24th annual BAMkids Film Festival. They are screening short films from around the globe that encourage kids to embrace their dreams, follow their hearts, and let their imaginations soar. Plus, they’ve got a great lineup of free activities—including dance and circus performances, creative workshops, and the Young Filmmakers Showcase—offered online, at BAM, or both. Family-friendly carnival featuring walkabout performers, circus and live performances as part of the 24nd annual BAMkids Film Festival. Festival activities take place from 10am to 3pm. In person programs for ages 5 – 11 on February 5 and 6. Tickets are $10 per child and $14 per adult.

Lunar New Year at Brookfield Place in Manhattan | Feb 3-5

Lunar New Year Celebration in Downtown Brooklyn | Feb 5

Ring in the Lunar New Year at Albee Square with a celebration featuring traditional lion dance performances by the New York Choy Lay Fut Lion Dance Team and DJ KDOTLIM. Snap a selfie with the lion dancers. Follow the lions into DeKalb Market Hall for a Lunar New Year inspired meal! Tradition says that a good lion dance performance brings good luck and happiness.Saturday, February 5th from 2:00 – 3:30 PM at Albee Square and 3:30 – 5:00 PM at DeKalb Market Hall at City Point with 3 dragon dances at 3.30, 4 and 4.30 pm.

Lunar New Year celebration at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum | Feb 5

Join Brooklyn Children’s Museum as we usher in the Year of the Tiger! Learn about the festival and traditions of Lunar New Year through storytelling, live music, plus a calligraphy workshop and a rooftop lion puppet parade led by the Chinatown Community Young Lions. The event will take place on Saturday, February 5th starting at 10 am and 2 pm. Tickets are $13, RSVP here.

Lunar New Year at the Seaport | Feb 5 and 6

Heart-shaped pizza making workshop at Time Out Market | Feb 12 and 13

Share a pizza your heart with the whole family this Valentine’s Day Weekend at Time Out Market in DUMBO! Head to Fornino on the Market’s fifth floor for a fun, kid-friendly heart-shaped pizza making workshop. Twenty dollars will get access to the workshop for two (one guardian and one child) where you’ll get pizza-making materials, dough, toppings, goodie bags, heart-shaped balloons, chef hats, aprons, sparkling pomegranate juice and more. The workshops will take place on Saturday 2/12 and Sunday 2/13 at 11 am, RSVP here.

Puppet Lab at St. Ann’s Warehouse | Feb 17 – 20

A festival of new puppet theater with handpicked artists of St. Ann’s Puppet Lab creating and pushing the envelope on experimentation within the form. Shows are happening from February 17 to 20 and are best suited for ages 12 and up. Tickets are $24 – $35 per person, get tickets here.

Winter Olympics in Brooklyn Bridge Park | 2/19

Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy’s Winter Games are upon us on Saturday, February 19 from 1-4pm! They’ll kick off the day with a free winter warmup dance class from Chelsea Piers Fitness, then proceed to the winter games! Kids can also design their own medals at the crafts station, and families can take a photo with a winter games backdrop. Main Street in Brooklyn Bridge Park on February 19 from 1 to 4 pm.

Ice skating in Brooklyn

The outdoor ice skating rinks in Prospect Park, Industry City, at Brooklyn Commons in Downtown Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum and on Governors Island are open, details here.

The Pool at Industry City

The Pool by Jen Lewin is an interactive environment of giant, concentric circles created from more than 100 interactive circular pads, inviting visitors to walk, dance, jump, and play with the piece. The installation allows visitors to enter a world where play and collaborative movement create swirling effects of light and color. The free exhibit is open daily from 3 to 9 pm in the Industry City courtyard.

New kids yoga classes at OneYogaHouse at Pier 1 in Brooklyn Bridge Park

Kids’ Yoga classes feature yoga and mindfulness through movement, breathing, music, yoga games and storytelling. New yoga for 2-3 year olds Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 am starting 2/1 and new yoga for 4-7 year olds Tuesdays at 3.30 pm starting 2/8 at 90 Furman Street. Drop-in classes are $35, 8-week series $250.
