New amenities for families coming to DUMBO in 2016

DUMBO will be even more family-friendly in 2016 with a new children’s museum, a new climbing wall and a Brooklyn waterfront museum opening in our neighborhood.

  • The Brooklyn Children’s Museum is planning on opening its DUMBO annex in summer 2016. BCMStudio will be a studio and workshop space which will occupy 1,700 square feet at 1 John Street. Programs and classes will be offered for children ages 2-8 and families, incorporating the themes shared by the Museum’s home site and the DUMBO location: arts and culture, the environment and the natural sciences.
  • The bouldering facility in the Main Street section of Brooklyn Bridge Park will open in spring 2016. It will be North America’s largest outdoor bouldering facility. Kids of any age will be able to access to the facility, but with the design of the walls typically kids 6 and older have success. Day passes will be $9. Summer camp, birthday party packages and after school programs will also be available.
  • The new 3,000 square-foot museum space in the Empire Stores in DUMBO is scheduled to open in fall 2016. Brooklyn Historical Society’s new satellite location inside the redeveloped coffee warehouse will showcase the legacy of Brooklyn’s waterfront, history of the building and recent Brooklyn Bridge Park development.
