One of the oldest early childhood programs in Brooklyn is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year. Open House Nursery School first opened its doors to young children and their families in 1973, in a townhouse on State Street. And ever since then Open House has provided nurturing, inclusive and joyful early childhood programs that emphasize community and collaboration.
In celebration of this milestone, they have been going through our archives and dancing (to Raffi) down memory lane. They found some pages from one of their early brochures and a mystery picture of children socializing with Tom Chapin (!) and Dr. J (!!!) on their rooftop playground on Atlantic Avenue. Now on Warren Street, they still have a rooftop playground!
Come to their Welcome Day on Sunday, May 7, 11am to 2pm, at 318 Warren Street – RSVP so they know to expect you!
Open House remains a flexible, warm, and nurturing place for neighborhood families. The school, which has five classrooms, a private rooftop playground, and a dedicated indoor movement room, was specifically constructed for young children. They offer flexible scheduling – 3, 4, and 5 days – with extended days and vacation programs so that families may create schedules that best suit their needs. Highly experienced teachers lead all programs. Click here to request a tour date.
