Visit one of the upcoming open houses at PS 307 in Vinegar Hill for Pre-K and beyond. It is now the only school in our neighborhood that offers a public Pre-K program (which includes a Mandarin dual-language program):
Friday, January 9th, 9-10 am
Monday, January 26th, 6-7 pm
Friday, February 6th, 9-10 am
Monday, February 9th, 6-7 pm
Some facts about the school and the Pre-K program: The school, which provides services for Pre-K thru 5th grade, has a population of 370 children with a class size of 17.6 students on average. It’s zoning draws from the nearby Farragut Houses. Various great initiatives of the school have been implemented during the last few years, including a Mandarin program starting in Pre-K and a violin program.
P.S. 307 is the recent recipient of a federal Magnet grant which turned the school into a science and technology-themed Magnet School for STEM Studies starting in the 2014-15 school year. A Magnet School is a ‘choice’ school which means that it is open to both zoned and non-zoned students. In many ways, P.S. 307 has a lot in common with its neighbor P.S. 8. Nine years ago P.S. 8 received a magnet grant and was transformed by a great principal into the highly sought-after school that it is today. The school is already embracing technology in the classroom in a big way with smart-boards, lots of computers and laptops, and online learning programs.
They run six Pre-K classes with max. 18 students per class each school year from Monday to Friday, 8.00 am to 2.20 pm. After school program is offered until 6 pm daily. The application period for Pre-K will begin in spring 2015.
